Before joining Mount Royal University, Eric was fortunate to gain broad experience working as a data scientist, data science manager, and researcher. He has enjoyed applying machine learning and intelligent software to problems in several industries; including health care, agriculture, insurance, and sports. Eric is now happy to be at MRU, where he can share this experience while continuing to learn from great faculty and students.

Educated at the University of Alberta, Eric completed a BSc in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. His PhD work was supported by grants from Alberta Innovates and the Women and Children's Health Research Institute and won the George Walker award for best doctoral thesis. Eric's current research tries to understand basic principles of intelligence and learning: understanding these principles suggests ways to improve artificial intelligence and analytics.
