Research and AI at MRU

The use of AI in Research creates opportunities, such as rapid creative prototyping, new possibilities for code generation, automated data analysis, and more; it also introduces risks, such as systemic language biases and the generation of convincing but unsupported results, data interpretations, or conclusions. The increasing accessibility of AI tools enables rapid production of research outputs, including outputs with limited originality or scholarly value. As a result, research assessment should continue to emphasize rigour, originality, and meaningful contribution, rather than volume of publication. Research at Mount Royal University must allow for a risk-aware and flexible framework that promotes innovation while ensuring research integrity and protection.

Framework for Responsible AI

Now available for your review, the Framework provides guiding principles for the responsible use of AI across teaching and learning, research and operations. It anchors Responsible AI to existing policies, including those related to academic integrity, privacy, and information security. People, not tools, remain responsible for the integrity of their work and decisions. Regardless of your use of AI, it is your responsibility to be knowledgeable about, familiarize yourself with and comply with University Policies and Procedures. Employees using AI tools are expected to review and adhere to the principles articulated in the Framework for Responsible AI and Acceptable Use Guidelines.
