Provincial budget update
Following the 2026-2027 provincial budget announcement on Feb. 26, we want to update you on some of the key highlights for Mount Royal University. These numbers are preliminary and will be confirmed by the ministry in the coming weeks. As always, we thank you for your commitment to the success of our students and to MRU.
- Operating base grant: Increasing by 2.5 per cent to support rising cost pressures
- Capital and maintenance renewal funding: Increasing by 5 per cent
- Targeted Enrollment Expansion (TEE) funding: Continuing, with opportunity for future new TEE funding
- Students with Disabilities funding: Unchanged
- Health Workforce Action Plan (HWAP) funding: Unchanged
- Mental health support funding: Unchanged
We are working closely with the Ministry on the specifics of the budget and implications and opportunities for MRU as we continue to finalize Mount Royal’s budget that will go before the Board of Governors in March.
Advanced education is key to Alberta’s economic future, and we look forward to working with the province on what opportunities this funding presents for MRU and our future students.
