Dr. Leda Stawnychko

Dr. Leda Stawnychko

Associate Professor
Department of General Management and Human Resources

Faculty of Business, Communication Studies and Aviation

The path to Mount Royal was anything but a straight line for Dr. Leda Stawnychko, PhD, who joined MRU in 2022. Her teaching philosophy, shaped by lived experience as an immigrant woman, educator and scholar, is, in her words, “a process of becoming.” At its core, she defines teaching as “showing up for others.”

At MRU, Leda quickly developed a reputation for a student-centred teaching approach and for her proficiency in scalable, evidence-informed curriculum innovation.  She redesigned her leadership and organizational behaviour courses, incorporating simulations to help students develop real-world transversal skills.

“[Leda’s] co-development of AI-enabled role-play simulations with students reflects not only pedagogical boldness but also relational and participatory design; these tools have generated cross-faculty interest, including adaptation requests from colleagues across campus,” write Dr. AnneMarie Dorland, PhD, director of Mokakiiks Centre, and Dr. Michelle Yeo, PhD, the Academic Development Centre’s academic director.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Stawnychko’s leadership extends to faculty development, mentorship, and institutional service. Her work in academic leadership development strengthens MRU’s international reputation through a partnership with the University of Chile, where she co-leads a faculty leadership development program.

Together, Leda’s work reflects a deeply relational and values-based approach to teaching and leadership.
