Vaccine verification using MRU Now

Mount Royal University has implemented digital vaccination verification using the MRU Now app. Implementing vaccination verification enhances health and safety measures at Mount Royal and further helps the University respond to Alberta’s state of public health emergency.

Effective Oct. 4, 2021, an approved MRU Now QR code or a valid negative rapid test result is required for attendance on MRU campus for employees and students at Mount Royal University properties/facilities.

On-campus and in-person students, employees and faculty are required to upload their proof of vaccination or exemption to the MRU Now vaccine verification module and have an approved green or orange verified QR code before coming to campus.

If your phone does not accept the app, or you do not have a phone, use the web portal and print out your verification.

You may be required to present your vaccine verification at any time while on campus. The MRU Now QR code system protects your privacy. The pass does not display your vaccination or exemption status.

Use your MRU Now QR code:

  • When entering service spaces (e.g., library, vendors, campus & community Recreation sites, service offices, etc.)
  • When entering one-off or limited-time campus events (e.g., service visits, performances, games, conferences, etc.)
  • Upon request as needed by University, event, or campus service representatives

You will not be required to use your MRU Now QR code:

  • When entering a building other than the Riddell Library and Learning Centre
  • When entering your workspace
  • When entering your MRU Residence

Apply for vaccine verification

If you already have MRU Now on your mobile phone, you will see a link at the bottom of the Preferences/About screen to update the version of the app you have. The new version includes a vaccine verification button.

If you do not already have MRU Now, please download it.

If you are unable to submit your proof of vaccination using MRU Now, you can use the web portal.

You can use MRU Now to upload your proof of vaccination in a few easy steps.

Once your information has been uploaded, it will be reviewed and confirmed by an MRU employee. You will receive an email that states that your vaccination status has changed on MRU Now.

Obtaining your vaccination verification is the most convenient method for continuing to access in-person activities at MRU.

How to provide vaccination verification, step-by-step

  1. Photograph or screen capture your Alberta COVID-19 immunization record, including the QR code. If you are providing out-of-province or international vaccine documentation, ensure that the photo/screen capture is legible and contains your name, vaccine name and date of dose. Note: Celebratory stickers received from your vaccine provider (e.g. "I got my vaccine!") do not count for proof of vaccination.
  2. Download or open MRU Now. You may need to update the app.
  3. Select 'COVID-19 Vaccine Verification and Updates'
  4. Select 'Vaccine Verification'

If you are already signed into MRU Now, skip to step 8. Otherwise, continue to step 5.

  1. Select 'Log In with MRU Credentials (SSO)' and sign in using your Mount Royal username and password (that you use to sign in to mymru.ca or campus computers).
  2. Select 'Continue'
  3. Select 'Apply for Vaccine Verification'
  4. Select 'Submit Vaccine Documentation'
  5. Verify that your information is correct and then select 'Student' or 'Employee', whichever applies, under 'School Affiliation'
  6. Select 'Next'
  7. Enter your vaccination information into the fields and take or upload a photo of your vaccine verification. Ensure your name matches the documentation; if you have a preferred name in myMRU, then we may need to follow up to verify if it does not match your vaccination documents.
Note: Uploaded files can be in an image format (e.g. jpg, png, gif) or .pdf.
  8. Click on 'I consent to Mount Royal University receiving a record of my proof of vaccination'
  9. Click 'Submit'
To find and view your QR code at any time click 'View QR Code’ on the main screen or go to COVID-19 Vaccine Verification and Updates' › 'Vaccine Verification' › 'View Current Status'

How long is the approval process?

Your submission will be reviewed as soon as possible. In the meantime you can access campus with an orange QR code. Do not come to campus if you have a red QR code.

What do I do if I cannot use MRU Now?

If you are unable to submit your proof of vaccination using MRU Now, you can use the web portal. All of the above steps can be followed. You will still be required to show your vaccination status on campus. Please print the email or show the email on your phone/tablet/laptop.

Daily COVID-19 self screening is still required

Regardless of your vaccination status, all campus health measures are still in place. Be vigilant about self-monitoring for symptoms and stay home if you feel unwell. Masks must be worn in all indoor spaces on campus. This includes, but is not limited to, classrooms, labs, hallways, meeting and study rooms. Masks are not required while outdoors. Sanitization stations are set up at each entrance. Sanitize your hands before entering and when leaving any space.
