Sara Smith is an Assistant Professor of Ecology & Evolution in the Department of Biology. She earned her B.Sc. in Marine Biology & Oceanography from the University of Victoria then working as a biologist at the Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada in Toronto, Ontario before returning to graduate school. Sara earned her Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from the University of Calgary assessing the ecological consequences of genetically based temperature-associated traits in fishes. She then worked as a postdoctoral fellow with the Informatics Group at Harvard University and Boston University on the comparative genomics of avian brood parasitism before joining a large interdisciplinary group at Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria to investigate the impact of landslides on the genomics Pacific Salmon. Sara’s research interests lie in the ecology and evolution of behaviour, thermal biology, population genomics, and bioinformatic pipeline development.
