Awards

The FST Research Day general awards are cash prizes which are given out to the top presentations as well as serveral runner ups. The general awards categories are as follows :

1. classroom assignment-based research projects for 1000 and 2000 level classes
2. classroom assignment-based research projects for 3000 and 4000 level classes
3. independent research projects.

When you register, choose which category you fit into best (descriptions of the categories are below). Originality of the research work is an important point in all categories.

In addition to the general awards, there are a number of special awards which can be applied for if the posters match the awards criteria (below).

When you register and submit your abstract, please state whether you would like to be considered for an award in your general category and/or the award in environmental sustainability by checking the appropriate box.

General Award Categories

Classroom I and II

Criteria: A course-based study from a 1000 or 2000-level course. For example, analysis of published data, a literature review that identifies a gap in the existing research works, and/or critical analysis of an event or a data set.

Classroom III and IV

Criteria: A course-based study from a 3000 or 4000-level course. For example, analysis of published data, a literature review that that identifies a gap in the existing research and proposes possible future research works to address that gap, and/or critical analysis of an event or a data set.

Independent Projects

Criteria: A research-based inquiry attempting to address a question using existing data or data collected by the researcher(s). These projects are typically undertaken independently with a faculty supervisor, but can also include independent research projects that are completed as part of a course.

Special Award Categories

Environmental Sustainability Award - Sponsored by the Institute for Environmental Sustainability

Criteria: Any poster from the above categories that has an explicit connection to environmental sustainability.

Entrance Awards
Criteria: This year in addition to the awards mentioned above there will be two Entrance awards given courtesy of Pearson Canada by entering all the participants, who attend the keynote lecture, into a draw.
