Dr. Evan Cortens, PhD named interim dean, continuing education and extension

Evan Cortens, PhD, will become Interim Dean, Continuing Education and Extension at Mount Royal University effective June 29, 2022.

Evan comes to this role from the position of Director, Institutional Research and Planning at MRU, a role he will continue to hold. He brings a wealth of administrative and financial experience to the role and he is excited to champion the Faculty and its work both across campus and within the community.

Evan holds a PhD in Musicology from Cornell University, a Masters of Music in Musicology from Boston University and a Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature from the University of Calgary. He is deeply passionate about the arts and committed to arts education.

Prior to working at MRU, Evan worked for the Academica Group and taught music history courses at the University of Western Ontario and as part of the Cornell Prison Education Program at the maximum-security Auburn Correctional Facility in upstate New York.

Born and raised in Calgary, Evan’s connection to Continuing Education and the Conservatory started long before he started at MRU in 2016. He attended the Conservatory as a child and played with the Calgary Youth Orchestra, which allowed him to experience the value the Conservatory contributes to the community.
