MRU mourns loss of Queen Elizabeth II

Sept. 8, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the Mount Royal University community joins Canadians from coast to coast in mourning the passing of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and in remembering what the Queen meant to Canada.

For 70 years, Her late Majesty reigned with dignity, grace and compassion, dedicating her life to service. That dedication was a model for generations of Canadians and will remain an inspiration.

As Canada’s head of state, Her late Majesty was integral to our system of government, and presided over pivotal moments in our continued evolution as a country with the repatriation of the Constitution and establishment of our cherished Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Mount Royal, as a public university, shared her sense of service and appreciated her staunch support of education and citizenship, something that was demonstrated by the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships that have benefited many MRU students through overseas practicums.

A figure admired the world over, it is hard to fathom that she is gone. Let us come together and continue to learn from her example.
