Mount Royal University is pleased to announce that the Government of Alberta has approved a name change for the Bachelor of Science — General Science major. Effective July 1, 2026, the major is now called Bachelor of Science — Interdisciplinary Science. The new name more accurately reflects the program as it exists today. Interdisciplinary science provides students with breadth across scientific disciplines, courses that scaffold interdisciplinary thinking and strong preparation in mathematics, computing, research, communication, teamwork and analytical problem-solving. This change to Bachelor of Science — Interdisciplinary Science provides students with a clearer academic identity, signalling purposeful breadth, scientific rigour and skill in integrating knowledge across disciplines. The name change will also make graduates more attractive to employers looking for students who approach problems through an interdisciplinary lens.
