The Cougars women hockey team celebrating.

The Cougars women's hockey team will compete in the U SPORTS national championships hosted by the University of Montreal.

This year, all eight of Mount Royal Univeristy’s varsity athletics teams clinched Canada West playoff positions a tremendous accomplishment. In the fall, both the Cougars men’s and women’s soccer teams earned spots as the top two teams in Canada West’s Prairie Division, and the men’s and women’s basketball, hockey and volleyball teams have all made their push for the finals.

Two teams remain: women's hockey and women's volleyball

Women’s hockey

Finishing with a 18-10-0 record and 41 points, the Cougars women’s hockey team secured a playoff position by finishing third overall in the Canada West conference.

UPDATE March 6: The women's hockey program earned silver in Canada West over the weekend, competing against reigning champs the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, who have now taken the championships twice in two years. In a best-of-three series, the Cougars won Friday night 1-0, lost Saturday 5-1 and lost Sunday 1-0 in Vancouver. Now the Cougars await their seeding in the U SPORTS women's hockey national championships hosted by the University of Montreal. Keep an eye on mrucougars.com for game times and information.
