Updated vaccination and rapid testing requirements

Sent on behalf of Annalise Van Ham, Vice-President, Finance and Administration

Friday, September 10 at 2 p.m.

It has been a busy start to the fall semester and I am happy to see so many students, faculty and staff, in person, on campus, ready to begin the academic year.

A few very important reminders:

Changing requirements in Alberta

The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly in Alberta and some post-secondary institutions have made significant changes to their protocols as recently as today. To date, MRU has implemented mandatory masking, vaccine declarations and a rapid testing program. Mount Royal may soon be compelled to require proof of vaccination in order for anyone to come to our campus. This is increasingly becoming the norm in Alberta.

13,690 — Total declarations*

96.2% — Fully or partially vaccinated*

Declaring your vaccination status

Declaration is mandatory for all campus community members. Thanks to your input we have seen that 96.2% of our campus community is already self-declared as either fully or partially vaccinated.

Random audit of vaccination declarations

While only a portion of our campus will be required to participate in the rapid testing program, the University will be conducting a random audit of vaccination declarations. If you have declared you are fully or partially vaccinated and are selected as part of the audit, you will be asked to provide proof of vaccination.

Details of the rapid testing program

If you have declared as unvaccinated or have refused to declare, you are required to undergo rapid testing. You will receive instructions by email early next week on how to pick up your rapid testing program kits and submit the results.

We continue to balance returning to an in-person learning environment while managing the risks of COVID-19. I appreciate your kindness and compassion as we all navigate these challenging conditions.

I hope you all have a safe and restful weekend. Please continue to send any questions you may have to covid19@mtroyal.ca.

* Declaration numbers obtained to date from myMRU on Sept. 10, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. Vaccination status is reported as self-declared.
