Masking on campus

Friday, March 11 at 9 a.m.

Effective March 14, there will be a change to COVID-19 masking requirements on campus. In alignment with recent provincial government protocols, wearing masks will no longer be required; however, MRU strongly recommends you continue to wear a mask until the end of the Winter Term as an additional layer of protection.

As a reminder, please stay home if you are feeling unwell and take care of your health and that of your family and friends. Those who test positive for COVID-19 or are sick with a core symptom (fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, sore throat or runny nose) are required to isolate and should stay home to keep our community healthy.

Please note, masks are still required for the following:

  • Wellness Services on campus, as their operations follow directives from Alberta Health Services (AHS).
  • Continuous masking must be followed for up to five days following mandatory isolation due to COVID infection for vaccinated individuals. For more details, visit the Province of Alberta’s isolation website.
  • In specific clinics, labs and classrooms where masks are standard personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Students completing practicums, work terms, etc. may be subject to additional requirements by their employer (e.g. AHS).

We ask our community to be kind and respect others' decisions. Please continue to look out for each other in line with MRU’s culture of mutual respect. We will continue to monitor provincial and public health expert updates as their planned steps move ahead.
