Phased return to campus starting Jan. 24

Sent on behalf of Elizabeth Evans, Mount Royal University Provost

Students,

Today, I want to share an update on plans for a phased approach to bring you back to in-person instruction at Mount Royal University. The intent of this gradual return is to extend some in-person instruction as of Jan. 24 and to have all the courses originally scheduled for in-person instruction back on campus Feb. 28 after Reading Week.

We are mindful that with the Omicron variant there may be disruptions as we move through the phases, but we are committed to this plan, your well-being and your long-term academic success. We believe a phased return is the best way to support the commitment to in-person learning that has defined Mount Royal's approach during the pandemic.

Starting the week of Monday, Jan. 24, Mount Royal will begin the first phase. While we are still finalizing details, the decision for which courses will return will be based on a number of factors, including courses required for graduation or accreditation, or those with hands-on or experiential components. Early next week you will be notified by email if there are changes to your course delivery. As a reminder, there will be no adjustments made to courses originally scheduled for online delivery at the time of registration.

If the first phase proceeds successfully, a second staged increase will start approximately two weeks later. To progress through these phases and resume in-person instruction, we will assess the COVID situation regularly, monitor risks and use data to inform our decision making.

If you have classes on campus in the coming weeks, please remember:

  • Stay home if you are feeling unwell
  • If you have any core COVID-19 symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, you are required to isolate
  • You are required to wear a three-layer mask and to be fully vaccinated
  • If you are eligible, please get your booster shot as soon as you are able to do so

You can expect to hear from me on or before Feb. 1 about next steps. Please continue to check your email and the MRU website for regular updates.
