Representatives from 10 different sectors will share their professional journey. Learn about the broad scope of career possibilities available and how to make the most out of your Arts degree!

- There will be 10 sectors represented, one per table
- The 10 sectors are: Business, Health & Wellness, Government, Education & Research, Marketing &Communications, Nonprofit, Law & Advocacy, Entrepreneurship, Arts & Culture and Science & Technology
- Each sector will have 2 professionals assigned
- You will be able to spend 15 minutes with them discussing their career paths and advice for Arts students. Then the buzzer will sound and you will move to another table/sector
- Overall, you should be able to visit 4-5 table
Who are the sector representatives
- There are representatives from 10 different sectors, with varied educational backgrounds and experience
- Please review the bio's of all the representatives before attending the event
What are students expected to wear?
- To best align with our professional guests, business formal or business casual attire is suggested
Should students bring a resume?
- No. The event is meant to provide opportunities for students to network from a career perspective with professionals.It is not a job fair or recruitment event.
Can I connect with these professionals after the sessions?
- 1 hour of open networking will follow the speed networking sessions, at which time you will have the opportunity to connect with more of the sector representatives
- Students are encouraged to bring business cards or collect contact information from professionals, when the opportunity is offered.
- These sector reps are invited to share their experience and knowledge but are not committed to be formal mentors. If you are interested in having a formal mentor, learn more about the Harry G. Scheafer Mentorship program

| Business | Ashley Hipson | Talent Acquisition Specialist | Enterprise Holdings | Ashley Hipson graduated in 2005 with her Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing shortly before becoming a Management Trainee with Enterprise Rent-A-Car. There she entered the Management Training program working at various local offices before being promoted to Management Assistant. It wasn't long before she was promoted again, this time to Assistant Branch Manager. For the next 5 years, she worked as a Branch Manager developing her management skills in 5 different locations. For the past 3 years, Ashley has focused on a new role in recruitment, and has been responsible for all the hiring in southern Alberta as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. Ashley is passionate about recruiting new graduates from diverse fields, is truly supportive of hiring from Mount Royal programs and providing insights into career opportunities for students and graduates. |
| Business | Ryan O'Connor | Divisional Director | Investors Group Financial Services Inc. | Ryan O'Connor graduated from Mount Royal with a BA majoring in English in 2004. Later that year he went on to take the Canadian Mutual Funds course as well as a Life License Qualification program, before signing on with Investors Group. During his first year with Investors Group he continued his studies in areas of business management, asset allocation and tax planning. In 2005 he was awarded "Rookie of the Year" for Calgary and area, and 2nd in Alberta for first year client accounts. Over the next 4 years he was the recipient of "The Pillar Award " as well as being nominated for the "Pillar Gold Medalist Award". Through hard work and diligence he was promoted to Division Director in 2006 going on to being awarded "The TOP Award" in 2015. With the support of Investors Group, Ryan has maintained dozens of industry specific designations and licenses that require continuing education credits for investments and insurance updates. Over the last 10 years he has grown both the division and his personal practice to over 100 million dollars in managed assets and this year has plans to move to Private Wealth Management within his company. |

She came to Mount Royal with a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education and a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology - both degrees from McGill University in Montreal. Her volunteer work positively contributed to being selected for her current career position at Mount Royal in Wellness Services. Francesca has been involved with non-for-profit organizations that support Indigenous Health in the community. A wholistic approach to life-long learning opportunities both at work and in the community helps to enrich her life and commitment to her career in the health care profession. |

She has been employed in the GOA for over forty years, largely in Human Resources. In addition, she has taught at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Continuing Education, in the Professional Management Certificate Program. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, a Certificate in Human Resource Management and a Master's Degree in Adult and Continuing Education. As a native Calgarian she has an interest in the history of Calgary and has had the opportunity to volunteer for some of our highlight events, like the 88 Olympics, World Petroleum Congress and Police/Fire World Games. |

Stacey has worked as a Strategist for all 3 levels of government over the past 15 years. Her background includes a Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, a Post-Grad Certificate in Women's Studies from the University of Waterloo, and an LL.B from the University of Calgary. In her current role she is focused on the effective stewardship of The City's corporate properties and buildings portfolio. Previously, Stacey was leading The City's external investments in recreation and cultural facilities, such as Mount Royal's Conservatory. She has also been active in risk management, issue management and a variety of legal issues. Over the last two decades, Stephen has served in various roles including instructor, research assistant, teacher and curriculum leader at Canadian and overseas institutions. He is currently the assistant principal of a middle school in Calgary, Alberta. Soon after completing her degrees in 2007, Kimberly started working in institutional research (IR) at Mount Royal University supporting and later managing the field work needed to collect student feedback about their instructors. Over the last nine years, Kimberly has taken on several roles in IR, and her current role as an assessment analyst now works primarily in survey administration, data analysis and reporting, and strategic plan implementation and reporting. Through her educational and career experiences Kimberly strongly believes success comes from being open to knew learning experiences and taking advantage of opportunities as they arise. |

For the past 20 years she has worked in the theatre and festival world across Canada. Currently she is the Director of Venue & Event Management for Arts Commons where she oversees the Booking & Sales, Client & Patron Services, Technical Production, & Volunteer departments. Leslie believes very strongly in giving back to the community and has sat on the boards of various local theatre companies as well as being highly involved with Rotary International. |

In her current role she is responsible for the logistics pertaining to Glenbow's collections including storage, care of the collection, record keeping, and acquisitions, and works closely with Glenbow's curators. She has also been active in Project Management, leading teams developing exhibitions. Daryl has always been passionately interested in history and studied it at the University of Calgary. For the last few years she has also been a member of the Calgary Heritage Authority. |

Jonathan Perkins is an experienced leader and learning professional, with over 20 years of experience in the non-profit, non-governmental, and business sectors. He currently works in the HR Learning & Competence group with Suncor Energy and prior to this, led the communities and networks portfolio. Jonathan has served as the chief operating officer for a small private foundation focused on building leadership capacity across the non-profit, business, and social sectors, as Vice-President, Accreditation of the Certified Management Accountants of Alberta (CMA Alberta), and with the Calgary Centre for Non-Profit Management, providing consulting support to client organizations among Calgary's more than 2,500 registered charities. Jonathan holds a B.A. (Honours) in History and Political Science and an M.A. in International Affairs, both from Carleton University. As a volunteer, Jonathan served on the Calgary Police Commission, and is a co-founder of TEDxCalgary, an independently organized TED event that has operated since 2009. |

Sandra moved into the business sphere where she worked in management, sales, marketing and finance with organizations like Canada Trust, Trader Corporation, ARAMARK and CGA. She has worked her way through the ranks from front line administration to the position of President and CEO of the BBB. Recently she left the BBB to become an entrepreneur in a sales and marketing training business.Sandra credits a great deal of her success to the discipline and hard work required to obtain her arts degree and the confidence that achievement provided her. |
| Science & Technology | Jay Heidecker | Seekintoo Ltd. | Jay Heidecker, founded Seekintoo Ltd. in 2012, and has over 15 years of core IT experience focusing on information security. Some of Jay's skills include service and support to infrastructure and application specialties, architecture and design, and most recently, cyber-threat detection and mitigation. Before founding his own company Jay served as a Technology Consultant with Hewlett-Packard for a number of years where he did strategic consulting, architecture, planning and deployment and customization of ArcSight software. He has also worked for Shaw Communications as an Infrastructure Architect and Security Specialist, and Server Infrastructure Specialist with Direct Energy. He believes technology can be used as a tool to help make the world a better place and sees those who work in this field as architects of a better future. He strives to maintain the innovation and drive that attracted him to technology in the first place, and has stated that he finds great satisfaction in seeing a solution solve real business problems. Jay looks forward to leading and mentoring the next generation of IT professionals, guiding and encouraging them to stay on the cutting edge. | |

After graduating from the University of Alberta, she served as Coordinator of International Relations for a town in Hokkaido, Japan that is twinned with her rural Alberta hometown. Following her two-year tenure overseas, she moved to our nation's capital and worked at the City of Ottawa Archives, building on municipal museum and archive experience she gained when she was a university summer student. Catherine has been employed at Mount Royal University since moving back to the prairies. She is currently the Technology Coordinator for Career Services, and believes Arts grads can bring valuable skills and perspectives to the technology sector. |

Catherine Brownlee is the President and CEO of CBI, where she brings over 30 years' experience in executive search and development, marketing strategies and networking around the globe, across all sectors. Her passion for connecting people and organizations, while nurturing objectives and maintaining focus, is her forte. She was recognized by her peers for this with an award for being among the top five Women of Influence in Calgary and a Paul Harris Award through the Rotary Club of Calgary. Catherine is a recognized expert and speaker on the subject of industry strategies and advancements. Former MRU student and Carnegie graduate Catherine, founded Prominent Personnel Ltd in 1998. Capitalizing on her comprehensive knowledge of oilfield operations and her broad network of associates, Prominent Personnel provided quality recruitment to operating and contracting companies around the world. In 2010, Catherine became very involved in municipal and provincial politics. She also worked on contracts for a wide variety of clients that were a catalyst for her to expand her network across all sectors to include government, finance, education, public service, health and medical, agriculture and not for profit. Today Catherine is currently writing her next best seller, which will provide strategies for getting the job of your dreams - anywhere in the world. |

| Marketing/Communications | Camille Jensen | Technical Communications Strategist and Principal | Scribe Solutions Inc. | For the past 17 years Camille has delivered technical communication and learning solutions in an array of business sectors including oil and gas, post-secondary education, not-for-profit, railway transportation, GIS, information management and health and wellness. She attributes her success to her liberal arts education that created a foundation for a broad range of skills and capacity to transition and evolve her career path. Her life-long commitment to study began with a BA in Communications from the U of C. A few years into the workforce she supplemented her BA with a diploma in Multimedia from SAIT. With over a decade of professional experience under her belt, she augmented her career with a MA in Communications and Technologies from the U of A. These educational milestones guided her career path initially with a taste in arts administration, followed by several years in instructional design within post- secondary institutions. Today, Camille runs her business entirely by referral. Her clients include Production Plus Energy Services Inc., Suncor and Cenovus. |

Licensed in Alberta as well as Washington state, Veronica works primarily with companies on business immigration matters (work visas/permits, permanent residency, citizenship matters, etc.) relating to their employees. In addition to private practice, and keeping up with her young family, Veronica has also previously taught legal assistant courses at SAIT and volunteered with Calgary Legal Guidance. |
| Law/Advocacy | Tricia Waddell | General Counsel | Mount Royal University | Tricia Waddell obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Political Science/ French Language and Literature) in 1996, her Juris Doctor in 2000 and her Masters in Business Administration (International Business) in 2014, all from University of Alberta. For 4 years after graduation from her JD, Tricia articled and worked as an associate lawyer primarily practicing real estate law and corporate commercial law, representing large organizations such as municipalities. She moved to another firm where she developed a client base of small entrepreneurial businesses. To strengthen her understanding of how the practice of law could support business, she decided to pursue her MBA. While studying part-time, she worked as a lawyer representing the University of Alberta, primarily focused on intellectual property law. In 2012, she jumped at the opportunity to start up Mount Royal University's first Legal Department. She has been General Counsel at Mount Royal University for 3 and a half years. |
