Cynthia brings an extensive background as an instructional leader to Mount Royal University. She has worked in elementary schools for 34 years as a classroom teacher, physical education specialist, literacy support curriculum leader, teacher-librarian, assistant principal and principal.

A life-long learner, Cynthia pursued her Master’s degree in Elementary Education with a focus on School Libraries. As a result of her passion for libraries and her core belief that all students can learn and be successful including ELL students, she researched what the role of school libraries is in supporting the academic achievement of our growing English language learners in schools and the implications for teacher-librarians and educators.

She recently retired from Cappy Smart School (Calgary Board of Education) and now is a sessional instructor at Mount Royal University. As an instructional leader, Cynthia wants to ensure that MRU students in the Education program have the opportunity to engage in quality learning experiences within a trusting, risk-taking and collaborative culture.
