The second annual NetWORDing professional learning day focused on “exploring the art and science of reading for K-3 teachers.” Held on October 4, just two days before the beginning of the teachers’ strike, the event was packed with 230 educators who spent their Saturday learning together. The event represents a unique collaboration between the Calgary Board of Education, Mount Royal University, the Kids’ Literacy Collective, and the Alberta Professional Learning Consortium.
During the lunch hour, four MRU teacher candidates shared their visual storytelling assignments that documented how they supported young readers during their year two field experience. An active social media influencer offered shout outs to MRU throughout the event:
At yesterday’s #Networding conference, I was amazed to see the collaboration happening between the Calgary Board of Education and the local Faculty of Education!
It was truly a privilege to witness the incredible work (supported by data!!) of preservice teachers like Jessica Cuillerier under the leadership of Jodi Nickel @MRU. Any student who has a teacher from Mount Royal University’s BEd program has won the classroom teacher lottery. I would love to see more collaboration like this, between Faculties of Education and school districts, across Canada!
