Bachelor of Health and Physical Education

With a fresh approach to health and physical education that is unique to Western Canada, Mount Royal's distinctive four-year program emphasizes a comprehensive approach to health and physical education while providing students with valuable hands-on experiential learning opportunities in- and outside the classroom.

Mount Royal's Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (BHPE) responds to the growing need for community health and physical activity champions in Western Canada and beyond.

You will have the opportunity to specialize in one of four majors, with each major offering current outcome-focused approaches that emphasize collaboration and leadership skills needed to champion the movement in your community.

Athletic Therapy major

Help athletes at any level become champions. The therapy you provide could be the final piece of the puzzle for an athlete to reach the podium — help them reach their top potential of physical activity. Over the course of four years, the Athletic Therapy major provides a comprehensive approach to physical activity, health and wellness. The skills and knowledge you will acquire will provide you with a well-rounded education that will expand your career and/or education options at a graduate or professional level.

Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership major

Create a diverse toolbox of skills in key areas of program planning, risk management, leadership, environmental stewardship, critical thinking and problem solving that can be applied effectively across a wide spectrum of sectors.

Physical Literacy major

Physical literacy incorporates elements of physical activity, mental and social well-being while fostering the motivation, confidence to lead a healthy and active life. It is much more than participating in sports and physical activity, it's about leading others, and ourselves, to live an active and healthy lifestyle. The skills and knowledge you will acquire in this program will provide you with a well-rounded education that will expand your career choices or education options at a graduate or professional school level.

Sport and Recreation Management major

Get the best of both worlds as you benefit from Sport and Recreation Management's innovative blend of theory and real-world experience, for example working with sports teams or in recreational facilities. Develop business acumen that will prepare you to launch your own business venture or bring an entrepreneurial perspective to an organization.
