EAL/ESL Full Time Program

English Language Program Payment, Refund and Deferral Policy

Payments
Students must submit a $100 non-refundable application fee to complete the online application.

Students must pay the non-refundable tuition deposit by the date indicated on their offer letter to accept their spot in the English Language Program for the Fall or Winter semesters.

Full fee payment is due by the fee payment deadline for each semester. Students who do not pay their fees by the deadline will be dropped from their courses and have to pay a $150 re-registration fee in addition to the full tuition and student fees.

Semester Payment Deadline
Fall Aug 15
Winter Dec 15
Spring Apr 15

Applications can be accepted after the fee payment deadline by contacting the English Language Program office. Students who apply after this deadline must pay the full tuition and fees at the time of application and are not eligible for refunds or deferrals.

All payments must be received two business days BEFORE the first class of the term.

International students must show proof of health insurance to be registered in courses.

Refunds
Students who wish to withdraw from the program may be eligible for a refund. The amount of the refund is determined by the date of the written request.

All refund requests must be submitted in writing to mrulanguages@mtroyal.ca.

Before the fee payment deadline (15th of the month before semester start)
To receive a full refund, excluding the non-refundable deposits, a request must be received in writing before the fee payment deadline for the term.

Between the fee payment deadline and two business days before the first class
Students who request refunds after the fee payment deadline and at least two business days before the start of classes will be eligible for a 50% refund, excluding the non-refundable deposits.

Less than 48 hours before the first class
Students who withdraw within one business day of the semester start or after the classes begin are not eligible for a refund.

There will be NO Refunds after classes begin.

Deferrals
New students who are unable to attend classes in the semester they applied for may qualify for a deferral to transfer their application to the next intake semester without losing the non-refundable tuition deposit.

Deferral requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, and acceptable reasons for requesting a deferral include:

  • A study permit delay, but not denial
  • A medical or mental health condition that prevents you from attending classes

To request a deferral, please notify mrulanguages@mtroyal.ca before the fee payment deadline (the 15th of the month prior to the start of classes). You will be required to submit a deferral request form and supporting documentation on or before the fee payment deadline.

If your deferral request is approved, your non-refunding tuition deposit will be transferred to the next intake semester and you will not have to pay it again.

Failure to submit the deferral request by the deadline will result in your application being canceled, and you will not be eligible to receive a refund on your deposit.

Continuing students who want to take a break from their studies do not need to submit a deferral request. Students may return to classes within the allowable absence period. Students who return to the English Language Program after more than two semesters of break are required to reapply and complete a new placement test. When you are ready to return to classes after a break, send an email to mrulanguages@mtroyal.ca for support.

The English Language Program takes no responsibility for immigration matters.
