How to apply

Why choose Learn English for Academic Purposes?

Advance your future with Mount Royal University’s LEAP program — academic English for university success in Calgary.

Mount Royal University’s Learn English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) program helps you develop the language and academic skills you need to succeed in university and beyond. LEAP offers four levels of high-quality English instruction. You take a placement test to determine the level you start at. Each level is completed in 13 weeks and all four levels can be completed in 15 months.

Experienced and accredited instructors will teach you academic skills including:

  • essay writing
  • presentation skills
  • academic discussion
  • critical thinking
  • reading and listening

The program provides a clear and supportive pathway to university — completion of LEAP 4 meets MRU’s English Language Proficiency Requirement for degree, diploma and certificate programs. You will not need to complete an additional language test. Students in LEAP 3 and 4 can take MRU Academic Upgrading or Open Studies courses.

Whether you’ve just started learning academic English or are preparing to enter an undergraduate program, LEAP gives you the structure, skills and confidence to achieve your goals.
