In this episode of Peer Reviewed, we meet Rémi Barbini and Mizuki Oshita — two students whose stories remind us what happens when curiosity leads the way.

Rémi, a third-year Marketing student, first met Mizuki in the Global Student Lounge through the Language Partners Program. What began as casual French practice quickly became a weekly ritual filled with conversation, culture and connection. Guided by creativity and a love of community, Rémi sees Mizuki as a quiet but powerful force. She’s someone whose determination makes every interaction meaningful.

Mizuki, now in her fifth year at MRU, started in Social Work before discovering an unexpected passion for technology. A simple Excel course at work sparked something new, opening doors she never imagined and leading her into the Bachelor of Computer Information Systems program. She describes Rémi as patient, encouraging and someone who makes learning feel safe — essential qualities for anyone teaching a new language.

Together, their friendship captures the spirit of MRU: meet people you never expected, try things you never planned and surprise yourself with where learning can take you. Their story is a reminder that this is just the beginning and possibilities open when you stay curious.

Peer Reviewed is a playful series that puts friendship – and curiosity – to the test. Two friends. One bowl of unexpected questions. Each round, the duo takes turns guessing each other’s answers before the truth is revealed. It’s all about listening, learning and seeing your peers (and maybe even yourself) in a new light.

Sometimes you’ll be spot on. Sometimes hilariously off. But every time, you’ll discover something new. About how we think, how we connect and how much there is to learn from the people around us.

Because university isn’t just about growing your knowledge, it’s about growing your perspective.

It’s time to surprise yourself. Go further, dream bigger and make your mark.
