Course: GNED 3010 Science in a Global Context

This course provides students with an international experience to deepen their understanding of the scientific issues affecting our world and gives students hands-on experience through community-service learning. The topics and locations for this course will vary but the current offering focuses on the themes of biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and conservation in Honduras. Students will work with various different partners to explore these issues and through their CSL project students participate in data collection for CoralWatch, an international

organization that monitors the health of coral reefs around the world. Students also conduct independent projects that will both directly and indirectly benefit the community and local environments. Students will participate in approximately 50 hours of community service work when traveling to international locations, and assignments related to the CSL component comprise approximately 50% of the course grade.
