Resident Parking Information

Parking for Fall and Academic Year (Fall/Winter)

Parking is limited at Mount Royal University and the cost of a parking permit is not included in your Residence fees.

Residence Services works with Parking & Transportation Services to provide designated parking for students living in Residence. Although Residence can accommodate approximately 1,000 students, only 362 Residence parking permits are available — 275 for East Residence and 87 for West Residence. Residence parking is available in Lots 6 and 9, with permits available on a first-come, first-served basis.

If having access to nearby Residence parking is important to you, we recommend requesting an East Residence room during the application process, as more Residence parking permits are available in East Residence.

To receive priority access to Residence parking:

  1. Indicate that you require parking when completing your Residence application.
  2. Complete your Residence application and pay your confirmation deposit by August 1.
  3. Residence Services will provide Parking & Transportation Services with a list of eligible residents who requested parking.
  4. Parking & Transportation Services will contact eligible residents with information about accessing and purchasing a Residence parking permit.

If you apply for Residence or request parking after August 1, your information will not automatically be provided to Parking & Transportation Services. You will be responsible for contacting Parking & Transportation Services to request access to a Residence parking permit. Residence permits may still be available, but availability is not guaranteed. If Residence parking is full, you will need to purchase a permit from the general student parking options, which are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fall 2026 and Fall & Winter 2026–2027

Permit sales begin August 17, 2026 at 10 a.m. through HotSpot. Students must register for HotSpot using their @mtroyal.ca email address to access MRU parking permits. Visit Parking & Transportation Services for current permit prices, purchasing instructions and availability.

Please note the following:

  • Once Residence Services submits the list of parking requests to Parking & Transportation Services, all questions or changes related to your parking permit must be directed to Parking & Transportation Services.
  • Parking permits can be purchased for the Fall or Winter semester individually, or for both Fall and Winter semesters.
  • Additional parking permits may be available on a first-come, first-served basis through Parking & Transportation Services. Parking location and price may vary. If you are unable to secure a Residence parking permit, Lot 5 is the closest general parking lot to East Residence and Lot 1 is the closest general parking lot to West Residence. Contact Parking & Transportation Services for current availability and purchasing information.

Parking for Winter Term Only

If you require parking for the Winter term, indicate that you require parking when completing your Residence application. In early December, Residence Services provides Parking & Transportation Services with a list of eligible Winter residents who have requested parking, including their Residence location.

Once Residence Services submits the Winter parking list to Parking & Transportation Services, all questions or changes related to your parking permit must be directed to Parking & Transportation Services.

If you apply for Residence or request parking after the Winter parking list has been submitted, your information will not automatically be provided to Parking & Transportation Services. You will be responsible for contacting Parking & Transportation Services to request access to a Residence parking permit. Residence parking may still be available, but availability is not guaranteed.

Winter parking permits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit Parking & Transportation Services for current sale dates, permit prices, purchasing instructions and availability.

Parking for Spring and Summer Terms

Residence Services provides Parking & Transportation Services with a list of residents who have requested parking so that their eligibility for Residence parking can be confirmed.

For Spring and Spring/Summer residents, parking requests are provided to Parking & Transportation Services in mid-April. For Summer residents, parking requests are provided to Parking & Transportation Services in early June.

If you apply for Residence or request parking after the applicable parking list has been submitted, you will be responsible for contacting Parking & Transportation Services directly.

Parking permits are generally available during the spring and summer terms. Visit Parking and Transportation Services for current prices, purchasing instructions and availability.
