Amar’s love for storytelling and writing began in Seoul, South Korea while working there as an English teacher for a year. After returning to Toronto and writing for local publications, he decided to get formal training and completed a postgraduate certificate in broadcast news from Fanshawe College, followed by an MA in journalism from Western University. He also has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and certificate in sport administration from York University.

His journalism career started more than a decade ago with CBC News in Toronto, took him to P.E.I. as a TV and radio reporter, back in Toronto as a senior producer and writer for various CBC newscasts, and then with CTV News Channel as producer.

He has also worked in senior communications and media relations roles, including with the Greenbelt Foundation, Fleming College, and Seneca College in Ontario, where he also taught in the journalism diploma program.

In addition to teaching, and chasing mountain adventures on his days off, he’s currently working as a video journalist as part of the daily news team at CityNews Calgary.
