Dr. Lauren Dwyer

Assistant Professor, Information Design

Dr. Lauren Dwyer is an assistant professor in Mount Royal University's Information Design program, researching the role of emerging technologies in communication studies. Dr. Dwyer holds a PhD from Toronto Metropolitan University and York University’s joint Communication and Culture program, where she explored how social robots can be designed to enhance human communication and emotional experiences. Her current research interests lie at the intersection of emerging technology and human communication, particularly in relation to social robots and artificial intelligence.

Lauren Dwyer’s research explores how emerging technologies, including algorithmic media systems, AI influenced journalism, and social robots, reshape communication, behaviour, and the public sphere. She examines how machine systems curate perception, influence cognitive autonomy, and restructure media ecosystems. Before joining Mount Royal University she was the Academic Chair for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, where she oversaw the development of applied AI programs.
