Kyle Plotsky is an interdisciplinary academic who has worked with stakeholder and rightsholder communities across western Canada to improve environmental management and policy. After completing his PhD in Geography, he worked on the human dimensions of wood bison management in northern Canada. He continues this work through ongoing collaborations with researchers at Environment and Climate Change Canada. Much of his work is now focused on increasing the inclusion of local rightsholders in landscape management. Examples of ongoing community-driven projects include: 1) identifying ways to increase the recognition of Metis in Alberta; 2) understanding how to include risk in Indigenous Landscape Stewardship Frameworks; and 3) understanding how local Indigenous stewardship and western science can collaboratively deal with novel pest species.
