How Do I Choose Which Provider to See?
When to See a Counsellor?

- I am going through a tough time and need support with various challenges, such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, relationship issues, academic stress, addiction and/or other personal struggles
- I need support during a difficult life transition, like a move, a break up , or pending graduation
When to See a Mental Health Nurse?
-
I want to know how to be assessed to see if I have a mental health diagnosis.
- I want to see a doctor to help manage my mental health
- I want to see a doctor to help manage my mental health medications
- I want to find on and/or off campus resources to support my mental health
- I am experiencing symptoms that I think are related to my mental health and don't know what to do
- I want to know how to be refered to a psychiatrist
When to See Both
In some cases, you might benefit from both counseling and medical care. Our team of counsellors, mental health nurses, and physicians/psychiatrists often work together to support your well-being. Counselors provide talk therapy, mental health nurses connect you with resources, and physicians/psychiatrists focus on diagnosis, physical symptoms, and medication management. For instance, if you’re experiencing moderate depression or anxiety, therapy can help with coping strategies, while a physician or psychiatrist may offer a diagnosis and manage any necessary medication.
