Graduation & Convocation

Spring 2020 Convocation

Mount Royal University has made the decision to postpone the Spring 2020 Convocation ceremonies (June 3, 4 and 5) to Fall 2020. This includes Indigenous Convocation and all associated Convocation events to be held during that week. Further details about rescheduling or altering this event will be shared as they are known.

We understand the postponement of the Convocation ceremonies is disappointing but the safety and health of our graduands, their families and friends, as well as MRU employees, is our top priority. It is our intention to defer this event to a later date in the fall and we hope you will choose to come back and celebrate your remarkable achievements with us.

Students’ parchments will be mailed after final grades have been submitted and graduation evaluations have occurred. Please ensure that you update your contact information following the completion of your studies so that we may reach you when details on the new arrangements have been finalized.

Spring Convocation Postponement FAQs

If I paid a deposit for June do I get a refund?

Yes. We are hoping you will still join us for Convocation in the fall, but if you are unable to attend, please email convocation@mtroyal.ca to request a refund. Students that do not request a refund will automatically be moved to our fall ceremony. If you are unsure if you are able to attend the ceremony in the fall as the dates have yet to be determined, please do not request a refund at this time. We will accept refund requests after the fall dates have been determined.

If I paid a deposit for June do I automatically get listed for the fall ceremony or do I have to reapply?

Students that do not request a refund will automatically be moved to the fall ceremony.

I haven't applied yet to convocate, can I still do that and get on the list for fall?

Yes. Right now, we are transitioning students that had applied to convocate in June to the fall ceremony. If you have not applied to convocate yet, the application to convocate will reopen shortly. The deadline to apply to convocate for Fall 2020 Convocation is October 15, 2020.

Why haven't I received my parchment if I finished my classes in the fall?

This is normal. Parchments are only printed twice a year and released at the convocation ceremony. Because Spring 2020 Convocation has been postponed, we will be mailing all students their parchments once final grades are in for the winter semester and graduation evaluations have occurred.

Is the deposit to apply to convocate due May 15 non refundable?

No. Normally, this deposit is non-refundable, but given that the ceremony is being postponed, we will accept refund requests. Please email convocation@mtroyal.ca to request a refund. If you are unsure if you are able to attend the ceremony in the fall as the dates have yet to be determined, please do not request a refund at this time. We will accept refund requests after the fall dates have been determined.
