Choose-A-Room gives eligible Residence applicants an opportunity to select an available room and, if desired, choose their roommate(s).
The process begins with an early-access period for returning applicants and later opens to all other eligible applicants. Specific dates and access times will be sent to applicants by email.
Early Access for Returning ApplicantsBeginning in early May, approximately 300 returning applicants receive early access to Choose-A-Room.
Returning applicants are selected on a first-come, first-served basis using the date their Residence application fee was received.
Roommate Groups for Returning ApplicantsThe early-access process for returning applicants begins with approximately one week for roommate selection.
During this period, returning applicants can create a Roommate Group with other applicants who are also included in the early-access group.
If your preferred roommate is not included in the early-access group, you will not be able to add them to your Roommate Group during this stage. You can choose to continue without them or wait until Choose-A-Room opens to all eligible applicants.
Room Selection for Returning Applicants
Following the roommate-selection period, early-access applicants are given approximately two weeks to select a room.
Room-selection access is staggered based on the date the Residence application fee was received. Applicants with earlier application fee dates receive earlier access to available rooms.
If you are part of a verified Roommate Group, the group leader selects the room on behalf of the group.
Choose-A-Room Opens to All Applicants
After the returning-applicant early-access period ends, Choose-A-Room opens to all other eligible applicants, including new and returning applicants.
Applicants can create Roommate Groups and select from the rooms available when they receive access.
Choose-A-Room generally remains open until mid-July.
If You Do Not Select a Room
You are not required to participate in Choose-A-Room.
If you do not select a room before Choose-A-Room closes, Residence Services will assign you a room automatically based on availability and the preferences provided in your Residence application.
Applicants who apply after Choose-A-Room has ended will also be assigned a room by Residence Services.
