Residents' frequently asked questions
Eligible applicants may be invited to select their room through Choose-A-Room.
If you participate in Choose-A-Room, you will know your room assignment when you complete your room selection in the Residence Application Portal.
Applicants who do not select a room will be assigned through the automatic allocation process. Residence Services will email you when your room assignment is available.
You may log in to the Residence Application Portal to view your unit and bedroom number once you have been assigned.
Yes. If you form a roommate group during Choose-A-Room, you will already know the members of your group.
Applicants who are assigned through automatic allocation can view their roommate information in the Residence Application Portal once the assignment process is complete.
Roommate information may change before move-in if another applicant cancels or changes rooms.
Living with other people can sometimes be challenging. Begin by speaking directly and respectfully with your roommate about the concern.
Your Resident Advisor can help facilitate a conversation and support everyone involved. Residents are encouraged to work with their roommates and RA before requesting a room change.
If the issue cannot be resolved, you may submit a Room Change Request through the Residence Application Portal. A room-change freeze is normally in place during the first month of each term to give residents time to settle into their communities. Room changes are also subject to available space.
A Resident Advisor, or RA, is a Mount Royal student staff member who lives in Residence.
RAs help residents adjust to living on campus, connect with their community, find campus resources and address questions or concerns. They also organize community activities and provide after-hours on-call support.
Every Residence community—floor, triad or townhouse block—has an RA.
All residents are responsible for reading and understanding:
- The Residence Handbook and Community Standards Guide
- Their Accommodation Agreement
- The ResNET Acceptable Use Policy
You electronically sign your Accommodation Agreement during the application process. Copies of the current agreements and policies are available on the Rules, Policies and Forms page.
Your Resident Advisor will provide information about your first community meeting, Welcome Week activities and events taking place throughout the year.
Information may be shared through email, community meetings, posters and Residence bulletin boards. You can also visit the Residence Activities Council page to learn about larger Residence events and opportunities to become involved.
