Student Fees

Below is a general breakdown of the mandatory fees Mount Royal students should expect in an academic year. For more detailed information on fees, see the Tuition Fee Schedule.

Special Program feesAviation
Flight training fees are assigned to the flight training courses over the two-year program. Flight training fees are subject to change depending on operating costs for aircraft and related services and are due immediately upon registration. Contact the program directly for more information.

Bachelor of Interior Design
The Bachelor of Interior Design has a unique tuition and fee structure due to cost of delivery. This includes a program fee assessed by term based on the student's full-time or part-time status. 

Bachelor of Communications - Broadcast Media Studies
The Bachelor of Communications, Broadcast Media Studies has a unique tuition and fee structure due to cost of delivery. This includes a program fee assessed by term based on the student's full-time or part-time status.

Bachelor of Social Work
The Bachelor of Social Work program has unique tuition and fee structure due to the cost of delivery. This includes a program fee assessed by term based on the student's full-time or part-time status.

General Fees

The payment of all general fees is mandatory for all students. The general fees cover the following:

Recreation and Athletics Fee
The Recreation and Athletics fee is used to support and develop varsity sport and recreation programs and services for the University community. For more information on Recreation and Athletics, visit their website.

Students enrolled in programs with 90% or more courses delivered online are exempt from this fee.  The following programs meet the online delivery criteria:
  • Advanced Studies in Critical Care Nursing  
  • Embalmer Certificate
  • Funeral Director Certificate
  • Funeral Services Diploma

Student Accident Insurance Fee
This fee is levied each semester and is intended to provide students with accident expense reimbursement, dental accident reimbursement and permanent total disability benefit.

Students enroled in three or more full* courses are covered for all accidents on a 24-hour basis for the course term.

Students enroled in less than three full* courses coverage applies only:

  • while such students are in or on University buildings or premises for the purpose of attending classes or
  • while they are in attendance at or participating in any University activity approved and supervised by a proper authority of the University.

Student Services Fee
The Student Services fee is a mandatory fee, assessed on a per term basis, that directly supports services vital to students' academic and personal success. It is a comprehensive fee that is applied to services and supports in Student Affairs, Enrolment Services and International Education. A report detailing how this fee supports the student experience is published annually. 

Universal Bus Pass (U-Pass) Fee
All eligible students taking 3 courses (minimum of nine credits) in each semester are assessed a fee for the universal bus pass (U-Pass) which provides unlimited rides on Calgary Transit buses and C-Trains for a one-time per semester fee. The U-Pass program is administered through the Parking and Transportation Services Office. For additional information on the U-Pass program, please visit the Transportation and Parking website.

Effective Fall 2020, full-time students (registered in at least 60% of a full course load) enrolled in the Massage Therapy Diploma, Certificate, Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma and the LEAP program, will be eligible for the U-Pass.  Students enrolled in Open Studies or Academic Upgrading who are registered in a combination of at least 3 courses will also qualify for the U-Pass.

Students enrolled in the following listed programs with 90% or more courses delivered online are exempt from this fee. The following programs meet the criteria are:

  • Advanced Studies in Critical Care Nursing  
  • Embalmer Certificate
  • Funeral Director Certificate
  • Funeral Services Diploma

Students' Association Fees

All Students' Association Fees are mandatory fees collected by Mount Royal University on behalf of the Students Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU). Visit the SAMRU fees web page for a complete list of fees. 

Other FeesInstructional Equipment and Lab Fee
The instructional equipment and lab fee provides supplementary funding for the purchase of supplies and equipment used for instructional support purposes by students and faculty. This fee is calculated as a part of your total tuition.
