The annual Capstone Celebration of Learning took place on Thursday, April 23, 2026. At this event, friends, family, faculty, staff, mentor teachers and school administrators gathered to celebrate the teacher candidate’s learning journeys. The teacher candidates presented films which documented their experiences in their final practicum this semester. The films included topics like “How do I nurture growth mindsets within students and overall attitudes towards Mathematics?” and “How can Physical Education be the catalyst for students to live active and healthy lives?”

The celebration also included awarding the Alberta Teachers’ Association Gold Medal in Education award to the recipient, Maggie Jugovic. Maggie was nominated for this award by her Faculty Supervisor, Dr. Naomi Johnson. Dr. Johnson’s nomination highlighted Maggie’s commitment to “career-long learning” and her “dedication to high-quality reflections connecting theory to classroom practice.” Congratulations, Maggie, on your successful practicum and for receiving this prestigious award!

The Capstone Celebration of Learning is a pinnacle event for the Department of Education. Congratulations to all of our teacher candidates for their success and hard work this semester.
