On Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, the Faculty and Staff from the Department of Education hosted an event for community members, including MRU alumni, teachers, school administrators and educational partners. The event, Join the Conversation: Addressing Classroom Complexities, focused on a recent report exploring the complexities educators face today. The event offered a space for reflection, learning and connections.
At the start of the event, Shannon Cook from the Calgary Catholic School District offered an overview of the Aggression and Complexity in Schools Action Team: Final Report. Then, panellists Jennifer Gakis (Calgary Catholic School District) and Meghan Morden (Calgary Board of Education) offered their insights as school employees who work to promote successful teaching and learning in classrooms. The solution-focused event included time to ask questions, exchange resources, and engage in dialogue with educational partners.
Thank you to the emcee for the evening, alumni and Assistant Principal Kristen MacIsaac (BEd Class of 2018). As well, thank you to the speakers Shannon Cook, Jennifer Gakis and Meghan Morden for sharing your time and experience. Lastly, thank you to the guests for attending in the spirit of hope and care for Alberta’s educational system. The Department of Education looks forward to hosting more conversational events in the future where educators can come together to connect and build relationships.
