Congratulations to Dr. Sarah Hamilton for receiving the 2026 Mount Royal Faculty Association’s Teaching Excellence Award. Sarah Hamilton, EdD, was selected for this award because of her sustained commitment to the development of teaching and learning at Mount Royal University. Nominated by students and colleagues who recognize her innovative teaching practices and commitment to making mathematics approachable.
“Her instruction is intellectually rigorous, yet highly accessible, supported by clear communication, purposeful scaffolding, and opportunities for reflection and application”
“She does what many cannot: she makes mathematics education a loving, meaningful experience.”
Sarah is available for her students when they have questions about teaching mathematics, a subject that is daunting to many students across the university. In addition to teaching mathematics courses, Sarah teaches the first-year Professional Dimensions courses, supervises practicum and teaches the final capstone course. Outside of MRU, Sarah offers professional development opportunities to teachers and administrators in the community seeking to enhance their mathematics teaching approaches, working closely with organizations such as the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada to support learning for all students.
