BIOGRAPHY
Apel Mahmood Rifat joined Mount Royal University in 2025. He is a Ph.D. candidate in Finance at the Smith School of Business, Queen’s University, and holds an M.Sc. in Finance from the University of Saskatchewan. Apel has extensive teaching experience in finance, having taught Corporate Finance at Queen’s University and a wide range of finance courses at the Green University of Bangladesh. At Mount Royal University, he is teaching Corporate Finance and International Finance.
His research focuses on corporate finance, with an emphasis on corporate governance and its impact on firm decision-making. His work examines how interactions between boards of directors and shareholder activism influence corporate policies and performance. He also studies the role of external factors such as media coverage, analyst reports, and credit ratings in shaping corporate behavior. Through this research, Apel aims to provide insights into how internal governance mechanisms and external forces jointly drive firm performance and long-term value creation.
