BIOGRAPHY

Before joining Mount Royal University, Dr. Jelena Starcevic was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University and earned her Ph.D. in Labour Studies from McMaster University.

Her research examines how institutions shape work and employment in an increasingly digital economy. She studies the impact of artificial intelligence, digital labour platforms, remote and hybrid work, and technological change on organizations, employment relationships, and workers' experiences across different institutional contexts. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals across multiple disciplines, including human resource management, industrial relations, labour law, and socio-legal studies, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to understanding work and employment.

Dr. Starcevic is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship and the SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Doctoral Scholarship. She participated in the Oxford Internet Institute's competitive Summer Doctoral Programme. She is an active member and regular presenter at the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE), the Labour and Employment Relations Association (LERA), and the Labour Law Research Network (LLRN).

Dr. Starcevic has taught courses in labour relations, occupational health and safety, conflict management, and intercultural negotiation in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Her previous work in labour law and public policy spanning government, the International Labour Organization, employer associations, and European Union-funded initiatives brings practical perspectives to the classroom, helping students connect theory with contemporary workplace challenges.
