   Essential apps

QLess Use QLess to join virtual lines on campus. Download QLess from your app store (iOS or Google Play) and then search for Places Near Me.
Boost Take advantage of Boost, a mobile ordering app that allows you to place orders at The Table for pick up at your convenience. Order meals ahead of time, schedule pick up, customize your order and pay with a credit card.
My Fare My Fare is Calgary Transit’s mobile ticketing app. Download the app, set up an account, and use your smartphone to buy tickets and passes anytime from anywhere.
HotSpot HotSpot is MRU's parking app that lets you pay for parking from your phone. Download the app to create your account, load your online wallet and pay for parking, from a daily visitor pass to a semester permit.
MRU Now MRU Now is the official mobile safety app of Mount Royal University. Download the app on your mobile device to receive real-time notifications about campus emergencies, report safety concerns, connect to Wellness resources, request Safe Walk and more.
DeciphAR DeciphAR is an app created by the Library in partnership with Red Crow Community College. It incorporates augmented reality to provide audio and visual information about the Blackfoot signage in the Riddell Library and Learning Centre.

 

   Communication and learning

Google Workspace Google Workspace is a collection of cloud-based communication, storage, productivity and collaboration tools. Visit the Google Workspace Learning Centre to learn more.
Gmail Gmail is email that's intuitive, efficient and useful.
Calendar Schedule meetings, events and reminders in this calendar program designed for teams. Share your schedule with others and create multiple calendars for groups.
Drive Google Drive provides unlimited file storage in the cloud. You can access your files from any computer and share your work with others.
Docs Create and edit text documents in your web browser — no special software needed. Collaborate with others in the same document at the same time, track changes as they're made and be confident in the automatic save feature.
Sheets Handle task lists, create project plans, analyze data with charts and filters, and more in this spreadsheet program.
Slides Create pitch decks, project presentations, training modules and more in Slides.
D2L

D2L is Mount Royal's online learning management system. You'll connect with your instructors, classmates and course content. This is where you'll submit assignments, review lecture notes, participate in discussions with your instructor and classmates, and more. For support and assistance with D2L, please use the following Library resources:

myMRU Access your courses, make payment, update personal information and more on Mount Royal's online registration system and one-stop information site for students.
Microsoft Office 365 Suite All full-time students at MRU get free access to  Microsoft Office 365 that is valid while they are enrolled at the University. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more.
ArcGIS Build interactive web maps with ArcGIS Online, Esri's web-based mapping software. Gain new perspectives and enhanced details as you interact with data, zoom in, and search on the map. Use smart, data-driven mapping styles and intuitive analysis tools to gain location intelligence. Share your insights with specific groups or the entire world.

Meet Use Google Meet to video conference, share your screen, deliver a presentation, take part in group work and much more.

 

   Accessibility

Kurzweil Kurzweil provides literacy solutions, tools and training for those with learning differences and challenges, as well as those with blindness or partial sight. 403.440.6868 or accessibilty@mtroyal.ca.
Read & Write Gold This literacy support software has tools for reading, writing, study and research, including reading web pages and documents out loud, help understanding unfamiliar words and proofing written work.

Tableau (Reader) Tableau Reader allows users to open and interact with data visualizations built into Tableau Desktop. Request a free one-year student license. 

 

   Technical requirements

Course material is delivered through D2L, Google Drive, Gmail and Google Meet. These approved applications are all available to you as part of your Mount Royal Google account.

The current version of most web browsers support D2L.

Minimum technical requirements

The technology you have at home may be sufficient for remote learning. If you’re buying something new, ITS recommends the following baseline hardware requirements:

  • Chromebook: 15”, RAM 4 GB (min.), hard drive 32 GB+
  • iPad: ability to run current iOS 13.6
  • Android tablets: ability to run current Android 10 OS
  • Laptop or desktop: i5 (min), RAM 8 GB (min.), hard drive 256 GB+ SSD
  • Apple laptop: Macbook Air i3 (3.2GHz), 8GB/256GB

The Library lends laptops and hotspots to students on a three week, first come first served basis. Students can connect with the Library via Chat or Text or visit the Library’s website to borrow equipment.

Virtual Computer Labs

The new MRU Virtual Computer Lab (vLab) service by Apporto provides 24/7 access to specialized instructional and classroom applications such as SPSS, MATLAB, Minitab, ArcGIS, R Studio and more.
