Scholarly Interests:
Aymeric Legrand has taught French as a second and foreign language for fifteen years, working with learners from early childhood through adulthood in the United States, Australia, Latvia, and Canada. His professional interests include learner motivation, classroom engagement, game-based learning, and action-oriented language teaching.
His teaching follows the action-oriented approach, which views learners as social agents who use language to complete meaningful tasks, solve problems, collaborate, and communicate in realistic situations. He places particular emphasis on playful, engaging activities that encourage students to participate, take risks, and develop a lasting interest in French.
As Education Director at the Alliance Française of Calgary, he leads the education department and oversees programs, curriculum development, teacher support, pedagogical quality, examinations, and educational partnerships. Through this role, he works to strengthen access to French-language education and connect Calgarians with French and Francophone cultures.
Teaching Statement:
I believe enthusiasm is contagious: when I enjoy the classroom experience, my students are more likely to enjoy it too. I use games, challenges, and collaborative activities to give learners meaningful reasons to communicate in French.
Communication comes before perfection. A language is meant to be lived, not simply studied. My goal is to create a classroom where students feel comfortable taking risks, interacting with others, and using French with confidence and purpose.
