Purchase Permits with HotSpot
Parking permits are available for purchase through HotSpot. You must register for HotSpot with your Mount Royal University email address (@mtroyal.ca) to access parking permits. HotSpot is available for iOS and Android devices, and online.
Purchases can be made through the HotSpot app or on the HotSpot website. For information about creating an account and purchasing permits, please view the HotSpot instruction documents.

Key Dates for Permit Sales

Fall 2025 permits will be available for purchase online through the HotSpot app and website beginning at 10am. Permits are available on a first come, first served basis. Spring permits, listed as "Campus Wide Parking" in HotSpot, are valid for parking in any surface lot on campus, excluding parkades and Residence lots. With a Spring parking permit, you can park in any of the following lots:
If you wish to purchase an East Gate Parkade permit, or an underground parkade permit, please purchase the annual permit for that location. There are no Spring specific permits available for parkades. Residence permits are listed as "Residence Lot 6 - Semester" or "Residence Lot 9 - Semester" in HotSpot for the Spring semester. Please email parking@mtroyal.ca for access if you are living in residence and do not see these permits listed in HotSpot. |

Accessible Permits
Accessible Permits are available for purchase in-person at Parking & Transportation Services.
- Purchase of permanent accessible parking permit requires:
- Valid photo ID
- Alberta Registration Certificate for your Disabled Placard or
- Alberta accessible placard
- Purchase of a short-term accessible parking permit requires:
- Valid photo ID
- Medical professional’s (Doctor, Physio-therapist, Nurse Practitioner, Chiropractor, etc.) note indicating the length of time expected to recover, issued within the previous 3 months.
An applicable MRU accessible placard to compliment the accessible parking permit will be issued. It must be displayed from the rear-view mirror and visible from the outside of the vehicle. The MRU placard is valid on MRU campus and for the time period specified.
Individuals qualifying for an Accessible Permit will be granted access, through Hotspot, to purchase accessible daily parking.
Accessible parking permits allow the vehicle to be parked in any MRU accessible identified stall with the exception of the RMCCL and RLLC parkades.
Government issued Accessible Parking Placards are recognized throughout campus in all accessible stalls.
Accessible placards which are not on full display or expired will be subject to violation and / or tow.
Parking fees apply to all accessible stalls.
Motorcycle Permits
Motorcycle parking is available for purchase in-person at Parking & Transportation Services for $30/month. Parking is available at the entrance of Lot 3, and Permit Lot 8. Please refer to lot signs for the exact location, or view the parking map.
Carpool Permits
Carpool permits are available for purchase in-person at Parking & Transportation Services. For more information about carpool parking options on campus, please visit the MRU Carpool Program page.
Refunds and Exchanges
For refunds, please contact Parking and Transportation Services. Refunds are calculated on a semi-monthly proration rate. Refunds will not be issued retrospectively. Please note refunds will not be issued once a permit has reached the last month of validity. For further information, please contact Parking and Transportation Services.
