ResNET FAQ
Wireless Network
To connect to the ResNET wireless network, select ResNET from the list on your device. You will be prompted to enter a username and password. Use your MyMRU username and password.
Important note: If you are a new Mount Royal student and have never changed your MyMRU password, you may have to change your password through MyMRU. Changing your password synchronizes your account with ResNET.
Wired Network
Each bedroom and living room in your unit has an active network port. Connect an Ethernet cable from your device to the wall network port. In West Residence, there are two ports in the bedrooms, however only the first port is active.
If you are a new MRU student, please change your MyMRU password. Changing your password will synchronize your account with ResNET. If you have already changed your password but are still unable to connect please see below for your specific Operating System type.
Windows Computers
If you are running Windows and are still unable to connect after changing your password, try our wireless configuration guides. If there is still no connection after attempting the configuration guide, you may need to install our server certificates in order to access ResNET. Click to download and install our certificates.
If you are still having problems, contact ResNET Support at 403.440.8888 or resnet@mtroyal.ca.
Note: You will need to use your MyMRU credentials to access the file. If you do not have MyMRU credentials please contact ResNET Support.

To connect a game console to ResNET you will need an Ethernet connection to the network port in your unit. Wired ports are availabe in either your bedroom or the living room of your suite/townhouse. Note: West Residence has two ports in the bedrooms, however, only the first port is active.
Game consoles cannot connect to the wireless ResNET network due to the security settings - game consoles are not capable of the required username and password authentication.
Note about Nintendo Devices: The Nintendo consoles do not have a network port. A LAN adapter must be purchased in order to connect it to a wired Ethernet port.
To connect an Apple TV to ResNET, you will need to fill out an Apple TV connection form at Residence Services Front Desk.
Wireless Printers
Due to our security settings, wireless printers are not able to connect to ResNET.
Use a printer cable to connect instead - free USB (Type A to Type B) printer cables can be picked up at the Residence Services Front Desk.
If you do have a wireless printer, please ensure that the wireless antenna is turned off as printers cause interference to our network. If you requrie assistance in disabling the Wireless antenna on your printer please email us at resnet@mtroyal.ca.
Unfortunately Chromecast will not work with our network. Chromecast requires that two devices be able to communicate with each other in order to work. Due to security, we do not allow devices to communicate with each other as we do not wish for someone else to be able to access your device.
Wired Devices
Some streaming devices (Roku, Nexus Player, etc.) or Smart TVs are able to connect to the network through a wired connection. Please conect your device to the wired Ethernet port in your unit, either in your bedroom or living room.
Apple HomePod
HomePods are able to connect to our network using your MyMRU authentication. Please see this Apple Support article for more information.
Roku or Amazon Firestick
If you have either a Roku or Amazon Firestick, these can be configured to work with the ResNET WiFi. Please email resnet@mtroyal.ca with the WiFi (MAC) address of your device. Please note that only devices that come with a physical remote will work on the WiFi network. If your device requires you to use your Smartphone it will not work.
Nexus Player
Nexus players are able to connect to the ResNET WiFi network using your MyMRU authentication credentials.
Amazon Echo or Google Home
If you have either an Amazon Echo or Google Home device, please email resnet@mtroyal.ca with your device's WiFi (MAC) address. These devices will not be able to connect to other devices, that is you will not be able to stream content from your smartphone to these devices, but your device will be able to connect to the Internet and access content via the built-in assistant.
Other Smart Home Devices
Please note, other Smart Home devices will not work with the Residence Network (ResNET). Unfortunately most devices require device to devices communication. For security reasons, ResNET does not allow devices to communicate with each other as we do not want one Residents device to be able to be accessed by another resident.
As per the ResNET Accessible Use Policy, the creation of wireless networks (WLANs) is strictly prohibited. Setting up your own network would cause interference to ResNET's wireless network and a slower connection for everyone.
However, wireless routers may be used with the wireless antenna disabled.
